I'm so excited about this! September is going to be a very exciting month on TCM. I'll have to stock up on videotapes. :)
Best wishes,
Laura
Wow - "One Way Passage" followed immediately by "Divorce" - rather like being able to experience at one go the apex and nadir of the career. Should be fascinating. If only I didn't have to rely on British TCM, which apparently has a library of exactly fifteen films.
But this is really to let you know that you've been tagged. This means you must:
- Pick up the nearest book.
- Open to page 123.
- Locate the fifth sentence.
- Post the next three sentences on your blog and in so doing...
- Tag five people, and acknowledge who tagged you.
I fully expect you have something excellently cinephilic at hand...
Tell you what I'm gonna do ... :)
I'm not going to make a whole post on the topic, but since I do in fact have "something excellently cinephilic at hand," I'll post it here.
This is from page 123 of Center Door Fancy, Joan Blondell's roman à clef: I'm not very pretty, but I have white teeth. And garbage men whistle at my chest. We have been traveling almost every place.
Interestingly enough, if you know anything about Blondell's teenage years, this pretty much sums them up in a nutshell.
Brilliant! And indeed as good an example as I can think of of a part standing for a whole.
Have you seen Blondell's very late film, Cassavetes's (sp?) "Opening Night?" Strange picture, but she's quite good.
Of her late films, I've only seen Grease (though that hardly counts). And I've not seen any of Cassavetes's work, though I have a DVD-R with 3 films and a documentary I recorded off a tribute on TCM.
I'm actually a new fan, but as soon as I learned she'd written a novel, I knew I had to read it. :)
Check out the newly updated post, folks. September is going to be even better than I expected! Kay Francis must be the Star of the Month that month.
